Is there a way I can install RED-PNDA on a UCS having vmware ESXi and using vsphere. I downloaded the ova file but not able to deploy it. Any wiki/ leads on how to do it?

Hi,

We haven't tested red-pnda on vSphere so don't know if the Fusion OVA image is compatible with ESXi as well.

Are you getting any error message? If so, can you post them?

What's your ESXi version?

Hi Pavan,

This is the error I am seeing when trying to deploy ova using vsphere.

This OVF package requires feature that are not supported.

The OVF package requires unsupported hardware.

Details: Line 25: Unsupported hardware family 'virtualbox-2.2'.

Hey Vasomani
I have did the same in my lab.(i.e to run the Red-PNDA ova on esxi using vsphere desktop client).
Here is roughly the steps that I followed:-

Deploy ovf in esxi from virtualbox ova:-

Use these links:-
1) https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/details?productId=491&downloadGroup=OVFTOOL410
2) http://www.baconapplications.com/export-a-virtualbox-machine-to-vmware/

Steps:-

 1. Download vmware ovftool.exe to convert ova to ovf. (it is cli tool and take some time to extract .ova into 3 files namely .ovf,.vmdk,.mf)

 2. Remove sha entry of ova from .mf file : (e.g my Red-pnda.mf looks like this: https://pastebin.com/xEPY9U1u)

 3. Change virtual-box-2.2 → vmx-7

 4. If deploy throws error then remove sound card

from .ovf file (also described in the above given link)

 5. It works!

Hope this helps!
